Summer bike camps> Extreme bike camps> Mountain bike camps> Summer bike tours>Bicycle History> Summer bike camps are a great getaway. Extreme bike camps and mountain bike camps rank high in popularity but teen cycling takes on a larger dimension with summer bike tours. The Student Hosteling Program brings the cycling experience of teens and students to a new heights and depths with their popular teen bike tours. There are US bike tours, Canadian bike tours, and European bike tours to choose from. Teen bike tours offer what no summer bike camps can provide, a sense of the world's grandeur. The bicycle is itself is a grand and multinational product. Beginning in Germany, it reappeared in France, onto England, and finally to the USA before its development was complete. Here's a little bicycle history to note the stages. |

1855 |

Until 1855 the bicycle world changed little. That year Pierre Michaux and his brother Ernest developed the front-pedaled velocipede in 1855. Living in Paris they successfully created the front driven velocipede and not wasting any time, they organized factories in France to produce their product. They refined their frame design and converted from wood to iron in frame manufacture. The one great problem in their new design, was a larger front wheel. The front wheel was powered by the pedals but this design made steering difficult because the riders legs would constantly knock against the wheel while turning. |
