Atlantic Sea Breeze

Along the coast from D.C. to Disney World
VAN SUPPORTED EASY BIKING      19 DAYS
Trip #ASB

Easy coastal biking with cooling ocean breezes

Atlantic Seabreeze Adventure offers tremendous variety as groups follow the east coast from Washington, D.C. to sunny Florida. Cycling, sightseeing, swimming, and shopping await trippers on this van–supported trip. From the nation's capital, trippers will ride the historic, beautiful bike trail from the Jefferson Memorial to Washington's home at Mt. Vernon. After touring the estate, the group will drive out to the resort coast of Virginia Beach for cycling, swimming, and shopping. Then we are off to the North Carolina's fabulous Outer Banks. Your group will cycle from Hatteras to the historic Kitty Hawk dunes, location of the Wright Brother's famous first flight, and perhaps visit Chincoteague Island's wild ponies. Ferrying to South Carolina, you step back in time and tour a pre–Civil War southern plantation and the exquisite resort island of Hilton Head, to bike for miles on the beach.

Next, your group will visit the charming coastal city of Savannah, Georgia, made picturesque by Victorian homes adorned with ornately painted porches before driving to the final destination – the Sunshine State. In Florida, explore St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States, cycling on some of the nation's most beautiful bike paths, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, and culminating the trip with a three day adventure in Walt Disney World as we stay right on the premises! Enjoy a terrific combination of Southern hospitality, American history, exquisite resort beaches, and Disney World on this van supported bike trip.

“I had just completed my Freshman year of high school and I decided that I wanted to do something with my summer. Teen tours looked intriguing, with their brochures containing pictures of smiling teenagers posing together. Exploring new places by means of bus and plane was an attractive idea, but it just seemed too easy. I continued searching the internet for teen trips and one day I stumbled upon the website for SHP. Their brochure was also illustrated by pictures of smiling teenagers posing together, but these seemingly cheerful teens were dirty, sweaty, and most probably smelly. I was intrigued. I decided to sign up for the trip.

I spent the first three weeks of my summer worrying about my trip. “Would the other kids be nice?” “Would there be a lot of hills?” “Would I like the food?” Finally, Judgment Day arrived and I hooked my bike to the back rack, threw my duffle bag in the backseat, and buckled my nervous self into the passenger seat.

So here I was, having minimal biking experience, a past record of severe homesickness and picky eating, and having camped out once prior to this trip, setting out for two weeks of biking and camping in Vermont with a group of teenagers, none of whom I knew. This group of teenagers from around the world soon became a small family. I became so wrapped up in my newfound friends and sense of accomplishment and independence that I didn’t write to my parents or call home until the last days, to clarify where they were picking me up.

At the end of the trip, we gave hugs and promised to keep in touch. It was at that moment that I realized how much that trip had been worth. I cried to stay with the people who made me feel at home. We didn’t need a roof, we sheltered each other. You can’t do anything about the length of your summer, but you can do something about its width and depth.”
